Meet BÉR, our newest addition to the BERtrand family. He is a Black Labrador Retriever that just turned 1, and I am excited to share how Bér inspired a small batch of upcycled straps and scraps.

My family loves Bér for all his loving, playful, puppy energy. He has an instinct to fetch, tug, and chew A LOT. Bér has 70 lbs of tug-n-chew Jedi force, and most off-the-shelf toys don’t last longer than a few hours with him. We could not find extra-durable dog toys free of synthetics fibers and not made of injection-molded plastics.

Inspired by Bér, I started knotting tug toys with Aplat’s organic cotton and raw denim excess tote straps. Testing the prototypes with Bér, I am happy to say that after a year of tugging, chewing, washing, and drying, they still look good as new!

I am excited to launch an extra-small-batch of healthy, sturdy, and sustainable dog tug toys and over-the-collar bandanas that are good for pets and the planet exclusively on aplat.com.

TUG TOYS: Handwoven from 20 feet of double folded, double sewn raw denim and 10 oz organic cotton duck straps leftover from our wine and food tote production, these zero-waste tug toys are hand-tied in sturdy crown knots that are beautiful, three dimensional, and textural. The grooves help massage your pups gums as they tug and chew. You can also hide treats inside the grooves of the knots to engage their natural nosework instincts.

PET BANDANAS: Cut and sewn from offcuts from our denim garden tote production where there was just enough material to cut triangles to create over-the-collar bandanas in 3 sizes. The sturdy denim looks great and easily slides off to throw in the wash when needed.

Every day is Earth Day for me here at Aplat. Over the many production cycles, I focus my attention on reducing our pre-consumer waste to zero. And when there is a small batch off-cuts, I reserve this precious material, knowing that I will upcycle-design them into a new product.

Our collection is made from the highest quality, most sustainable materials we can find. Read more about our circular design process here.

Aplat's zero-waste, sustainable goods for pets will launch on National Pets Day, April 11th. We hope you enjoy all our small batch of zero-waste upcycled off-cut products.
